Understand your connection requests

See what a request means, who needs to respond, and where to find an accepted connection.

For everyone

These steps use the Beacon website unless the iPhone app is mentioned.

In this guide

Open the request before deciding

In your participant account, open Connection requests. You can also follow Review requests from Me when that reminder appears. Choose View request to read the details.

The page shows the request’s status and history, along with the matching context you have access to. Some requests include a compatibility score. A request created by an administrator may have no score at all; that does not mean the page failed to load.

Read the explanation and dates alongside any score. They help you understand the introduction, but they cannot tell you everything about another person.

Who needs to respond?

For a sponsor introduction, the sponsor reviews the request and accepts or declines it. Sponsees can follow the status while it is waiting for the sponsor.

If Beacon shows you Accept match and Decline match, those are the responses available to your account. Declining asks for confirmation before saving the decision. If you only see the details, do not assume a response button is missing; you may be viewing the person’s response rather than being asked to make one.

What the status tells you

  • Pending: the request is waiting for a response.
  • Accepted: the match is active. Use the messages link when it is available to open your conversation.
  • Declined: the request was not accepted.
  • Expired: the response window ended before the request was answered.
  • Cancelled: the request was cancelled.
  • Closed: the match has ended.

Completed requests remain under Past requests so you can look back at what happened.

If a request needs attention

If a response cannot be saved, read the message on the page and reload the request to check its current status. Eligibility or the request itself may have changed since you opened it.

Ask your network’s leader about an expired request, a connection that needs to end, or an introduction you do not recognize. For a technical error, contact the Beacon team with the request page and the error text. You do not need to copy anyone’s private intake answers into a support message.
